HEY TEACHERS!!!!! and other youth group organizations... TEDxABQ Youth “Ideas Worth Spreading” Hero Contest Attention all youth organizers, groups, and classes: Do you have a group of young heroes that you think should get to experience TEDxABQ Youth on November 14th for FREE? Well you’re in luck, because at the TEDxABQ Main Event in September, several individuals paid for tickets for a few lucky young people to go to TEDxABQ Youth. To apply for tickets just create something that fits into TED’s slogan, “Ideas worth spreading.” It can be a short video, an art project, a community service project, poetry…pretty much anything, as long as it’s fun, creative, and is an idea worth spreading. Submit your creation by posting it to the TEDxABQ facebook page or emailing it to Rusty@DukeCityDreamLab.com. Please include in your submission: · The name of your group or organization · A brief description of why your group would benefit from attending the TEDxABQ Youth event · The number of youth hero tickets you are applying for (up to 10) · The best way to contact you to let you know if your group is selected · Your group’s creation! (…or photos/videos of your groups service project) Deadline for submissions is Saturday, November 7th at midnight. Winners will be announced Monday, November 9th. Winners will receive up to 10 TEDxABQ Youth Hero tickets (18 and under). Adult tickets and additional youth tickets can be purchased at tedxabq.com. By entering you are allowing TEDxABQ and it’s affiliates to share your submissions in full or in part on its websites, social media, radio, TV, and in print. For any inquires or questions, please email Rusty Rutherford at Rusty@DukeCityDreamLab.com.

I can think back on my life and remember so many people I have met. It is kind of funny how we meet people and attach a nice little label to people that says who they are, what they mean to us, how we treat them and how they fit in the world. Have you ever stopped to think about how we fit with others? You know, we are all just a couple of degrees of separation from everyone in Burque. If you know me, you are only one degree of separation from: a prison inmate, an addict, a person who lived in an internment camp, a woman who killed her child, a person who has been shot, a person who has shot someone, and two degrees from Samuel L. Jackson. Every one of us is only one or two degrees of separation from little Lilly who had her life taken from the world at only 4 years old. We all know someone who knows Steve Stucker. We are so much closer than anyone realizes. That stranger that you are ignoring as you walk down the street could be the best friend of a coworker, that person in the car next to you could be the new love interest of your next door neighbor. We need to realize that we are a community and are only one degree of separation from love, family, friends and death. I want you to find someone who has liked a similar post, or who also commented on a funny picture and say hi to them. Don’t worry about politics, beliefs or appearance. Just attempt to reach out and let’s turn Albuquerque into the amazing community it deserves to be.

I'm tired.... I'm tired of gracious people Having to be gracious like those at French's Funeral Services paying for the burial services of a 4 year old child named Lilly who was shot in the head by someone she didn't know. I'm tired of a world where people are so cold that the only place some feel they can turn is towards suicide. I'm tired of a world where people with dark skin fear for their lives at least once a day. I'm tired of a world where someone can make money off of people suffering while those who spend countless hours helping others struggle to support themselves and their families. I'm tired I'm tired I'm tired

Got to spend the morning with a hot air balloon and my kiddos, and then got to hang out with the rest of the kids from Zuni during the fun run. 4 hours of hanging out and volunteering all before 10am. #showup
