Thank you to you all for the anniversary wishes and love. Today has been a busy day with a lot going on and we really didn't have very much time for the two of us to just be together. that's the way it goes sometimes. Some years we spend incredible amounts of money celebrating. There have even been years when we forgot it was our anniversary. That's the way it goes sometimes. There are also the other times. The random text messages throughout the day just to say I love you. The silly lovers codes, the pats on the butt, the tickle fights, the condescending remarks, the raised voices, the make ups, the laughter...oh yeah, there is a lot of laughter. We are fortunate enough to have twelve years of not just ups and downs, but twelve years of everyday life and, really, isn't an anniversary just a sum of all it's parts. Every waking day I have her love and everyday I give her mine. So, maybe we didn't spend much time together day... That's ok we still have the rest of our lives to make up for what is basically just another day that I get to call her mine and to be the best man I can be for her.

I've been having a pretty bad week and my heart is torn open, but today the clouds parted just enough to let a rainbow through. I really feel like my head is going to explode. I don't know how to process this and that doesn't mean send me a private message telling me that you understand me and how you and your black friend "talked about this stuff all the time. White people can be so unaware." I am tired of whitesplaining, and microaggressions, and ignorance and subject changing and people dying. I am tired of all of it but mostly I am scared. I am scared that because I am such an emotional person that I might just stop feeling, because you know what? That seems like the only thing left to do.

Ten years ago I was given something that no can ever give me again. A gift that a lot of people take for granted. This was the best thing I have ever gotten and nothing will ever be better than this. This gift was becoming a father. Ten years ago today Kailin Riley Overton came into this world from her mother's womb and right into my arms. The first few minutes of her life nothing existed but the two of us. All wrinkly and crying you were the most amazing thing I had ever seen. Happy birthday, punk butt! This gift keeps getting better and better.....
