Not sure if you know this, but I LOVE TO READ!! There were times in my life when books were the only friends I had. Books didn't try to beat you up, they didn't hurl racist names, they didn't care how "cool" you were and they didn't let you down. Not in a way that some people might anyway. Books saved me from what could have been a much worse fate. It is pretty cliché, but books can help to transport you to other places. More importantly books can help you think about new ways of being and understanding. That's something we could use more of these days.... More understanding. I want to give children a love of books and reading like I have and like my children have. That's why I want to read to kids. Show them how much fun books are now so they will become life long readers. Sorry so long winded.... Bring the kids!! 10am this morning!

You might not know this about me, but I am a phenomenal story teller. I do different voices and change my pace and tone depending on the path the story takes. One of my favorite things to do is read to kids. Anthony snapped this picture of me during one of my weekly readings for Mrs Williams' first grade class. I am going to start up a weekly storytime at a park near my home. I encourage you to do the same. Have a great day!

I just cried along with and held the hand of an older woman who is a regular here at the restaurant as she told me how much she missed her sister who recently passed away. The two of them have been coming in since a month or two after we opened. I have been looking for a reason to feel good about where I am working and I think that wherever I work, as long as I can make connections with people, I'll be OK.

Today for teacher appreciation week I want to thank Stephanie Estes, Kailin's first grade teacher. Professionally, Stephanie is one of the driving forces behind my daughter's successes in reading. The environment for learning that was created in the class room allowed for confidence and self reliance. Now Mrs Estes gets to help other teachers become better. Personally, Stephanie is my third sister who I love dearly. I don't dare think about how empty my life would be had Kailin gotten the first grade teacher we had wanted her to get. We are so lucky to have her and her family as our part of ours. #thankateacher

Today for teacher appreciation week I would like to thank to of the best teachers I could have ever asked for. First would be my fourth grade teacher Mr. Rayburn, who taught a little, analytic minded kid that anyone could be an artist. He taught me how to use math and language to create and for that I am forever grateful. Next would be Mrs Phyllis Benia Salazar who taught me the most important artistic lesson that I apply to everything I do today, and that is "Art Is Your Soul On Paper" or on stage or in music..... If your soul isn't in it, it isn't art. Thank you so much. #ThankATeacher
